We are seeking a committed, patient and enthusiastic Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive ASD/ADHD provision in Hornchurch, working with children who have complex communication and sensory needs. This is a rewarding role where you will support children in developing communication, independence and learning through structured, personalised approaches.

About the Role

You will be working with children in Year 2 and Year 3, with a mixture of pre-verbal communication, early vocabulary, and some using AAC devices. The provision follows a highly structured, visual and communication-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils in following visual schedules and using core boards and/or AAC devices for communication.
  • Deliver and assist with a range of intervention-based and sensory activities including:
    • Attention Autism (Bucket Time)
    • TacPac
    • Pairing and Intensive Interaction
    • The Curiosity Approach
    • Phonics and early reading (Read Write Inc)
    • Workstation activities and structured teaching time
    • Sensory and messy play

  • Provide personal care, including nappy changing, where required.

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)? We are seeking a dedicated, patient and enthusiastic Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our highly nurturing early years ASD provision in Hornchurch.

About the Role

You will be supporting a small group of children in Reception and Year 1, all with ASD, who are developing pre-verbal or early vocabulary communication skills. The successful candidate will help create a safe, engaging and structured learning environment tailored to the needs of each child.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support children in following visual schedules and using core boards for communication.
  • Deliver and assist with a range of intervention-based activities including:
    • Attention Autism (Bucket Time)
    • TacPac
    • Pairing and Intensive Interaction
    • The Curiosity Approach
    • Phonics and early reading (Read Write Inc)
    • Workstation tasks and structured teaching
    • Sensory and messy play activities
    • Food tasting and basic life skills sessions
  • Support access to a curriculum based on the EYFS 16 areas of learning, adapted to individual needs.
  • Provide personal care where required, including nappy changing.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and support staff.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with the children and support their emotional regulation.
