Specialist Teaching Assistant (ASD/ADHD Provision)
Location: Hornchurch
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: £80–£100 per day
We are looking for a caring, committed and enthusiastic Specialist Teaching Assistant to support children with ASD and ADHD diagnoses within a nurturing, highly structured setting. This role is ideal for someone patient, creative and passionate about supporting children with complex communication needs.
About the Role
You will be supporting children from Reception to Year 3, all of whom are pre-verbal and follow personalised learning routines. You will help create a consistent, sensory-rich environment that supports communication, engagement and emotional regulation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils in following visual schedules and using core boards for communication.
- Assist in delivering a variety of intervention-based and sensory approaches, including:
- Attention Autism (Bucket Time)
- TacPac
- Pairing and Intensive Interaction
- The Curiosity Approach
- Phonics and early reading (Read Write Inc)
- Workstation activities and structured teaching time
- Sensory and messy play
- Sensory circuits
- Support children accessing a sensory-based curriculum aligned with the EYFS 16 areas of learning and the Engagement Model.
- Provide personal care, including nappy changing, where required.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and support staff to ensure consistent and effective provision.
- Build positive, trusting relationships and celebrate each child’s progress, no matter how small.
About You

- Have experience supporting children with ASD, ADHD, or complex needs (desirable but not essential).
- Are nurturing, resilient and able to stay calm under pressure.
- Are confident engaging in sensory-based and play-focused learning.
- Are willing to learn specialist strategies and approaches.
- Communicate well and work effectively within a team.
