Job Opportunity: Specialist Teaching Assistant (ASD/ADHD Provision)
Location: Hornchurch
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: £80–£100 per day

We are seeking a committed, patient and enthusiastic Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive ASD/ADHD provision in Hornchurch, working with children who have complex communication and sensory needs. This is a rewarding role where you will support children in developing communication, independence and learning through structured, personalised approaches.

About the Role

You will be working with children in Year 2 and Year 3, with a mixture of pre-verbal communication, early vocabulary, and some using AAC devices. The provision follows a highly structured, visual and communication-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils in following visual schedules and using core boards and/or AAC devices for communication.
  • Deliver and assist with a range of intervention-based and sensory activities including:
    • Attention Autism (Bucket Time)
    • TacPac
    • Pairing and Intensive Interaction
    • The Curiosity Approach
    • Phonics and early reading (Read Write Inc)
    • Workstation activities and structured teaching time
    • Sensory and messy play
    • Food tasting and basic life skills
  • Support children following a curriculum based on the EYFS 16 areas of learning and Pre-Key Stage Standards.
  • Provide personal care, including nappy changing, where required.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and wider support staff to create consistent, meaningful learning experiences.
  • Build positive, secure relationships with children, supporting emotional regulation and celebrating every step of progress.

About You

You will be a great fit for this role if you:

  • Have experience supporting children with ASD, ADHD or complex learning needs (desirable but not essential).
  • Are nurturing, patient, resilient and calm.
  • Are confident supporting children with early communication skills or AAC devices.
  • Are willing to learn specialist interventions and structured teaching methods.
  • Work well as part of a supportive, multi-disciplinary team.
